Compare job offers after tax and rent (2026)
A $140,000 offer in California and a $125,000 offer in Texas are closer than they look — and Austin rent decides it. Enter up to three offers; each is run through the paycheck engine for its state and city, the employer match is added to total compensation, and the rent you'd pay is taken off. The winner is the one with the most left each month. Preview free; the side-by-side PDF is $4.99.

What the comparison counts
- Federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state income tax, mandatory state payroll premiums and city tax on salary plus bonus (single filer unless changed, no other deductions).
- Employer 401(k) match as compensation you receive but do not take home.
- Rent as you enter it — check typical one-bedroom rents on the city rankings.
- Not counted: health-insurance premium differences, equity vesting risk, commute, cost of living beyond rent. The table is the start of the decision, not the end.
Frequently asked
Why is the Texas offer ahead on less salary?
No state income tax and lower rent: on $125K a Texan keeps about $7,000 a year more than a Californian on the same pay before rent is even considered.
Does it include the 401(k) match in take-home?
No — it is shown in total compensation because you receive it, but it goes into a retirement account, not your monthly budget.
Can I compare offers in different countries?
Not here; use the by-country table for the tax side.
