Rent receipt generator (free): monthly receipts for your HRA claim
Generate the rent receipts your employer asks for at proof-submission time — one per month, with the landlord's PAN (mandatory when annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000), the payment mode and a revenue-stamp note for cash payments. Free; print or save as PDF. Then check what the exemption is worth with the HRA calculator.
Rules for HRA proof
- Landlord's PAN on the receipt (or a declaration) when rent exceeds ₹1,00,000 a year (Rule 26C / CBDT circular 08/2013).
- Receipts are needed monthly or quarterly; most employers accept one per month for the months claimed.
- A revenue stamp is customary on cash receipts above ₹5,000; bank transfers and UPI need none.
- The exemption is the least of actual HRA, rent paid minus 10% of basic, and 50% of basic (metro) or 40% (non-metro) — the calculator works it out.
Frequently asked
Do I need the landlord's signature?
Yes — a receipt is the landlord's acknowledgement. Print it and have it signed, or get a signed scan; digital signatures are accepted by most employers.
Can I generate receipts for a whole year at once?
Yes: list the months separated by commas and one receipt is produced for each, numbered in sequence.
Is this free?
Completely. It exists because everyone who claims HRA needs it in January, and the HRA calculator next to it is where paysums earns its keep.
